Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Front Gallery

05 Dec 2005

This venue is suitable for exhibitions of: History and Society, Arts

Since the 1960s, Gladstone has grown from a fishing and seasonal meatworks town into a major port and industrial city. Many come for employment opportunities and shift work is prevalent. The average age of the population is approximately 27 years old and youth unemployment is high. Cultural and ethnic groups include Aborigines and Islanders, Filipinos and Russians. Clubs and societies serve those interested in art, music, handcraft and local history plus fishing, sailing and all sports. Nearby Heron Island and the Marina stimulate tourism. The Harbour Festival and Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race are held annually at Easter. Planned alterations to the Gallery include incorporation of workshop facilities, a life and a covered delivery access area.
