Albany is the site of the first European settlement in Western Australia and as such has many historic features. The town is situated on some of the most beautiful coastline in Australia and is a popular tourist destination. Fifteen per cent of the population was born outside Australia - Dutch, German, Italian, Danish and Polish being most predominant groups. Four per cent of the population are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
