Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) is a publicly funded gallery, resource and education centre which aims to develop audiences for photography and to stimulate critical discussion around photography's role and practice. CP boasts four discrete gallery spaces. The two largest spaces are subsidised by the state and federal governments as exhibition spaces for innovative, experimental and contemporary photo-based artwork. The exhibition program includes a diverse range of photographic, film and video works, including new digital imaging technologies such as laser and computer generated prints. A third space at CCP, the Helen Schutt Access Gallery (established in 1993, renovated in 1999) operates on a rental basis. This gallery provides exhibition opportunities for a very broad spectrum of photographers, including many first-time exhibitors. In 1997, in response to a new need, CCP established its fourth space - the E-Media Gallery - purpose built to exhibit CD-ROM based artworks.
