'InHeritage', a student's project package, was designed specifically for high school students to help develop an appreciation of, and commitment to Australia's heritage through the exploration of family artefacts.
A unit called InHeritage, was developed for Artlab by the Education Department of South Australia. The unit aims to foster an understanding and appreciation of heritage and heritage conservation issues, by looking at family heritage.
InHeritage was designed specifically for high school students to help develop an appreciation of, and commitment to Australia's heritage. The bulk of community museums and historical societies are staffed by volunteers, very few of whom are young. A large volume of feedback from these organisations suggests that they need young people to take an interest in museums if these museums are going to survive.
The need to interest young people in their heritage is, therefore, a necessary part of any long term strategy to preserve the Distributed National Collection.
