Be Prepared Workshop Package

Be Prepared Workshop Package is a kit of resources for use by trainers in organising and running a Be Prepared workshop. This workshop aims to take participants through a series of learning steps, enabling them to use the manual to develop and implement their own Disaster Preparedness Plan.

In 2000 the Heritage Collections Council published the document Be Prepared which provides guidelines for small museums for writing a disaster preparedness plan (also referred to as an emergency management plan). This workshop is designed to further the use of this manual.

The training package comprises a set of resources for use by the Trainer from the first steps in organising and promoting the workshop through to material for use on the day for presentations, exercises and a follow up evaluation sheet.

Purpose
The workshop has four broad goals:-

-Communicate an understanding of the importance of disaster preparedness planning
-Stimulate discussion on this subject
-Take participants through a series of learning steps to enable them to use Be Prepared
-Assist participants to feel confident to develop and implement their own Disaster Preparedness Plan
The workshop does NOT deal with specific salvage procedures.

Target audience
The workshop has been developed to assist:

- People who work in museums to begin a task they may have had no previous experience with;
- People who work in emergency management agencies to understand the special needs of museums that need to be considered when developing whole-of-community plans;
-Museum workers, waged and unwaged.

The workshop presentation is a Microsoft PowerPoint file and other material in the kit is available in pdf format.

The Evaulation form is downloadable as a word.doc. This is so you can customise it to your own requirments before use.
