Tongarra Museum
Tongarra Museum features changing exhibitions of Aboriginal and European heritage and explores the rich history and culture of Shellharbour City.
The museum provides guided tours, assistance with family history and research queries, and access to our reference library.
Teachers kits & Education Package are available from the museum. Activities include 'in house' exercises, tours of the Pioneer Cemetery, and heritage walks.
Collections
The centrepoint of the museum is a bronze bust of Caroline Chisholm 'The Emigrants Friend', who settled some 23 families in Shellharbour in 1843. The collection also includes over 4000 historic photographs, historic maps, lithographs, land sale posters and artefacts relating to the history of the Shellharbour area.
