Description:

The top of this quilt is made from men's suiting samples and the backing is cream cotton. It is machine stitched. There is no padding and no quilting. 2160 x 1550mm

Quilt History:

This is one of 4 quilts made by Zumma Carraro and her mother Emma and sister Nara c.1935. It is now in the collection of Annette Gero.

Story of Quilt:

"This is one of 4 waggas made by an Italian family after their arrival in Sydney, 1926. They settled in Marsville (NSW), grew fruit and ran a chicken farm. The sample suiting fabrics used to make the 4 waggas were obtained from Italian tailors who had a shop in Bligh Street SydneyÂ....." [Annette Gero]
