Description:

Animal skin rug made from rough rectangles of kangaroo skins, hand sewn together with leather thonging. Backing is woollen blankets. 2135 x 2057mm

Quilt History:

Made before 1960 by Stan Treacy (1916-1988), a shearer in the Roma and Charleville area. Owned by Stan, now owned by Julie and Pat Treacy. Known as 'Poppy's rug'.

Story of Quilt:

Kangaroos were shot in winter between shearing commitments. Stan made only two kangaroo rugs; he enjoyed making leather belts etc.
