Rebekah Butler, Executive Director M&GSQ speaking at the GAMAA awards evening
Museum and Gallery Services Queensland (M&GSQ), the peak industry body for museums and galleries throughout the State, proudly announced the winners of the 2007 Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA) at a special ceremony hosted at the Gold Coast Arts Centre on Saturday 15 September. Over 130 invited guests attended this gala industry event at which the Award Winners received specially commissioned trophies presented by Terry Gibson, Director, Creative Communities, Arts Queensland, Department of Education, Training and the Arts.
Now in its fourth year, the Awards are offered by Museum and Gallery Services Queensland to celebrate the significant work of individuals and organisations in the museum and gallery industry whilst encouraging the development of outstanding exhibitions, education and public programs. Institutions range from major State and regional galleries and museums through to smaller, volunteer run organisations. Individual nominees represent paid and volunteer artworkers.
This year’s GAMAA attracted nominations from every region of the State. There was strong competition in the five award categories, with 7 nominations being awarded a Special Commendation. The nominations demonstrated a wonderful cross section of excellence and best practice across the sector with recipients from Childers, Chinchilla, Rockhampton, Ipswich, Caloundra, Redcliffe, Kingaroy, Gold Coast, and Brisbane.
The Executive Director of Museum and Gallery Services Queensland, Rebekah Butler, said
‘Museum and Gallery Services Queensland is committed to fostering opportunities to recognise and profile the achievements of Queensland’s museums and galleries. The Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards are an important industry event designed to encourage the continuous improvement and development of the State’s galleries and museums, inspire best practice, and enhance the profile of galleries and museums in their local and wider communities.’
‘M&GSQ congratulates each of this year’s winners. The 2007 GAMAA attracted a high standard of entries from across the State, making the judges’ decisions extremely difficult.’
