Objects Through Time
Objects through Time takes you on an online journey. Objects speak to us about our past. Explore important chapters, places and events in Australian migration history and discover the people who have shaped New South Wales' culture and society.
Across Sydney and rural and regional New South Wales, communities are custodians of important movable heritage collections. The Migration Heritage Centre is researching and documenting the cultural heritage significance of these collections in partnership with them.
By writing down our knowledge today, we will help communities understand and keep their special objects and pass them on to future generations as a part of our shared heritage.
The objects may be an important part of local heritage places or cherished objects held by museums, galleries and community groups. Uniquely, they tell us about people's experiences and ways of life.
Read the stories behind the objects, chapter by chapter, as we write our online timeline with the people of New South Wales.
